First Trimester Screening

Kaiser Permanente Oakland



Today I had an appointment at the Oakland Kaiser Genetics Department for my First Trimester Screening to test for abnormalities. I had lunch with my mom at Gold Medal my favorite Chinese restaurant in Oakland Chinatown before.

When called into my appointment the ultrasound tech was a bit rude with me and told me I didn't drink enough water to see the baby and take pictures of parts she needed... I waited until they could fit me in between their appointments. While I drank cups of water and almost peed on myself several times.

Finally another tech came and got me and was able to get everything they needed... I asked the tech if she was able to see what we were having and she said she saw the development of scrotum! I didn't announce yet wanted more confirmations although she seemed very sure!

The screening came out to low risk of abnormalities.

Kayla and I attended Mateo's 2nd birthday, Vince was unable to attend due to his work schedule.  It was a beautful day in the city to be outdoors.  Kayla had a especially wonderful time with her older cousins Cali and Isiah who joined us, she rarely sees them.

Becoming an adult which seemed to have happened to us overnight, We got married and had a daughter in the back of my mind one dream lingered I wanted to own my own home and hoped Vince felt the same.  Trying to pay off unending debt (just me not Vince) and paying for monthly rent we felt as if our money was going nowhere.  So our lease was ending and we decided not to renew, we set a goal of 6 months to save money and find a new home…

When you have goals and are motivated to achieve, your dreams will become a reality…

During our Family Pismo trip the weekend of May 18th, we visited the dollar store to find a bandana to use for our ATV ride.  I decided to pick up a couple of HcG pregnancy tests just in case.  I hadn't remembered when my last menstrual cycle was so I decided to take a random test sometime during the trip. 

On Sunday, May 20th our last day on the trip I decided to take it and it came out positive I called Vince in to show him the result as he had no idea that I had taken it.  We both were more shocked than excited at the moment, it was such a surprise we decided not to tell my family yet.  We wanted to make sure as we just had a miscarriage earlier in the year.

On Monday, May 21st back to work I was determined to take a pregnancy test at the lab.  And once again it came out positive...  The next step was to set up a appointment to find out how far along I was, as I didn't know when my last menstrual cycle was.

I found out we were 7 weeks pregnant!

At 11 weeks the little gummy bear has grown a bit and is very active.  The doctor described the little one as being very photogenic...

It's been a while...

So, again I failed to blog as often as I should...  I am once again hoping to blog regularly.  I will be posting blogs of earlier events that happened this year.  Here we go!
